Move your blog from LiveJournal To Blogger

LiveJournal is a great free resource for people who want to keep a log or a diary of sorts of theirs online, or share their life experiences with their friends and family. It allows people to make posts, and then cross-post and share on their social media profiles. Hence, these journals have all the markings of a blog. But for people who started off with LiveJournal, but aren't satisfied with the limited options it has, Blogger is a great option for them. Blogger is so much more than what LiveJournal is. So if you're not satisfied with LiveJournal, you can just move your blog from LiveJournal over to Blogger and get much more functionality.

We recently published a post about transferring your blog from WordPress to Blogger. And we shall continue this series with this LiveJournal to Blogger conversion. Our dear readers have been demanding a post on conversion from Blogger to WordPress, so we will be doing that soon. Stay tuned :)

And now, back to the topic at hand.In this post, we will walk you through the conversion. We are assuming that you already have a LiveJournal account, with some content published on it, which you want to transfer.

Transferring from LiveJournal to Blogger

First of all, visit this link ( liveJournal2Blogger), and log into your LiveJournal account using the form given on the page. Unlike WordPress, LiveJournal doesn't provide you with an option to export your content. So you need a third-party app to do it for you. And this app does just that for you.

You will be prompted to save a file on your computer. This is your LiveJournal in a Blogger-friendly exported format. We will use this to import data into Blogger, so keep it ready at hand.

Importing data into Blogger

Now you have the exported file, all you need to do is import this file into Blogger. Log into, or sign up for a Blogger account, From there, either Create a new blog, or click on an existing blog where you want to publish your LiveJournal content.

Once you're logged into a blog's dashboard, Click on the Settings at the bottom of the left side-bar. From the options that pop out, click on Others. Then, on the right, you'll see an option to Import Blog.

Now, all you need to do is browse to the file you downloaded, and upload it here. Follow the simple instructions, and you have a set of posts from your LiveJournal account ready to be published!

As with the WordPress to Blogger, this conversion has a limitation of file sizes for up to 1 MB. But LiveJournal blogs are pretty small, so you shouldn't have much of a problem exporting your posts and comments. That's all there is to the conversion. Top 10 Blogs and Bloggers In China

Top 10 China Blogs

China is a country of hard-working people, and it has one of the largest online communities of internet users. Like much else, the IT industry in China has had a boom, giving rise to many internet users, IT professionals,  bloggers, and hackers. Despite growth in economy and many opportunities, a lot of people have turned towards  online methods of income mainly due to a lot of population in the country and the high competition. Hence there's a large community of bloggers in China. Continuing our series on top  10 blogs and bloggers around the world, we decided to look into what blogs are most popular in China. Here's our list of the top 10 bloggers and blogs in China.

Blog ranking

One thing that's really inspirational about the Chinese is that, they make almost everything themselves, and use those things as well. They have their own vehicles, they have their own stealth fighters, they have their own satellites, and they have their own search engine, social media and blogging services. And it isn't something that a small, local company runs with limited scope. These services are being used throughout China.

How's that relevant? Well, many popular bloggers in China are using Chinese services such as Sina and Sohu as their host and publishing platform. Forget WordPress or Blogger, the Chinese will have it their own way! While there's nothing wrong with that, it does put us in a bit of a problem. Some of these blogs aren't sub-domain blogs. So their Alexa and Google PR ranking is common and shared with the main domain. So ranking them on the basis of Alexa (or something similar) is useless.

Another thing to consider is, since many of these blogs are in Chinese, their major audience comes from the native Chinese-speaking community. In this regard, the local search engines and publishing platforms can provide a better estimate of what blog is more popular on the basis of total views or hits. Hence, we have picked up some such blogs, along with some regular ones with their Alexa ranks. from different categories. Enjoy :)

Top 10 Blogs in China

(Note: The statistics are provided by the Sina web service in China. Alexa is mentioned where the hits are unavailable)
  1. Hsu's Blog - 1.98588 Billion hits
  2. wu2198's Blog - 1.23542 Billion Hits
  3. De day - 1.05912 Billion Hits
  4. Han Han - 580.73 Million Hits
  5. Xu Jinglei - 311.36 Million Hits
  6. Li Chengpeng - 310.57 Million Hits
  7. Lao Sha - 308.49 Million Hits
  8. Acosta - 224.42 Million Hits
  9. Dangnian Mingyue - 235.29 Million Hits
  10. chinaSmack - Alexa Worldwide: 17,872, China: 7,935
If you feel this list is incorrect, then please feel free to provide additional data for our better understanding. China is, after all, a very large country :)

Add YouTube Associates To Your Site In Webmaster Tools

YouTube
For any blog or website, having multiple online presences is one way to gain visitors’ trust. These presences can be Facebook Fan pages, Google Plus Business Pages, YouTube channels, and other social media profiles. But for webmasters, running a website and managing all these accounts is one hell of a task, and often consumes a lot of time. In such cases, webmasters can assign administrative roles to trusted people. And Google is here to help! Using Google Webmaster Tools, webmasters can now easily add associates, or trusted users, to manage their YouTube presence for them.

How does it work?

Google recently released this associates feature. An associate is a trusted user who will manage a certain task only. This feature is available for most Google Products, so associates for YouTube or Google Plus accounts (etc) can be added. These associates can’t access site data like site owners. They are only authorized to do a certain task in other Google products.

Once you associate a YouTube channel with your site, that channel will become the ‘official’ channel for that site. So there’ll be no confusion as to whether a channel is fake or real. Hence, your brand gets recognized.

Associating a YouTube channel with your site

Before you start, it's important to note down one thing. To add a YouTube associate, a YouTube Partner Program account is required. Members of YouTube Partner Program who have created a channel can be linked to another site.

Adding associates in Webmaster Tools

  • To add an associate from Webmaster Tools, log into your account, and select the site you want from the dashboard
  • Click on Associates under Configuration, and then click Add New User
Add Associate
  • Now, enter the email address associated with the YouTube Partner Program account. You will also have to choose the type of user you want to add. Select YouTube, and click Add. The user will then be added as an associate to your site.
Add Users

Adding associates from YouTube

  • Log into your YouTube Partner account, and click on the user menu. Choose Settings >> Associated Website.
  • Fill in the page you want your channel to be associated with, and click add
If you own the page yourself, then you're done. But if you don't, then a request will be sent to the owner of the site, and they will have to accept it. Once accepted, the association will be complete.

Associates are a great way to assign trusted people with the management of your website's properties. It'll also help you get recognized by setting up an 'official' channel for your website, so people would feel securer while on your website or on your YouTube channel. Currently, integration is available only for YouTube and Chrome Web Store. But Google is trying this feature out more, and integration for more Google products is expected to come soon.

We'll keep you updated about future Google products integration. In the meantime, if you have questions, feel free to ask. Peace :)

How To Fix Rejected Ad Request Errors in AdSense

How To Fix Rejected Ad Request Errors in AdSense

Google AdSense Ad serving has been a hot topic since like forever, as lots of bloggers and webmasters use AdSense to make money online. Many people have asked questions regarding errors associated with Google Ads. And indeed, the rejected Ad request errors are quite common. These occur majorly when the ads on your site are not properly set up, and hence they can't crawl the correct URL. In such cases, an error occurs, and 'blank ads' might be served as a result. These errors have become quite common. But if you are encountering them, there's nothing to worry about. In this post, we will show you what causes such errors, and how to remove them.

What are Ad requests?

An Ad request is counted whenever a site requests ads from Google to be displayed. For example, suppose there are three ad blocks on a page. When that page is loaded, all the three blocks request ads from Google, and the ads are then displayed. Even if there is some error in displaying, it is still counted as an ad request.

Ad request errors basically occur when the requests are rejected, or could not be fetched. In that case, backup, or blank ads are displayed. This gives the first heads-up that something is wrong with your ad units.

Reasons for errors

The most common reason for such errors is that, your ad blocks are located within one or multiple iframes. This causes problems for the unit, because it crawls and targets the wrong URL. It becomes isolated, and hence cannot access and determine what sort of content you have, hence contextual ads become useless. And when Google can't determine your site's correct information, blank or backup ads might be served.

You might also be getting errors because you are using an SSP (Supply-Side Platform). SSPs include yield managers or ad servers that are used for ad optimization. You need to contact them and notify them of the issue you are having.

Fixing ad request errors

To fix these errors in AdSense and Ad Exchange, you generally need to pass to them the URL of the page that displays the ads.

DoubleClick for Publishers

For DoubleClick for Publishers users, if you are using the Google Ad Manager, then in your ad call, you can try adding this line of code to make your ads work properly

GA_googleAddAdSensePageAttr("google_page_url", "URL");

For Google Publisher Tags, you can try adding the following line of code to your ad call.

googletag.pubads().set("page_url", "URL");

For DART, in AdSense or Ad Exchange, you can pass the correct URL by using the dc_ref parameter in conjunction with the google_page_url parameter.

Other domains

For  tag.admeld.com errors within your report, you need to contact your Admeld representative and ask for JavaScript tags instead of iframes. This should take care of most errors caused by nested iframes.

For other domains, to target correct URLs, you will need to use google_page_url. here's a demonstration. Below is a code which contains a typical ad code

Typical ad code
<script type="text/javascript"> google_ad_client = "ca-pub-XXXXXXXXXXXX"; /* 728x90, creado 14/04/08 */ google_ad_slot = "XXXXXXXXXXXX"; google_ad_width = 728; google_ad_height = 90; </script> <script type="text/javascript"  src="//pagead2.googlesyndication.com/pagead/show_ads.js"> </script>

And below is a code with the google_page_url added. Notice the line with bolded text.

Ad code with google_page_url
<script type="text/javascript"> google_ad_client = "ca-pub-XXXXXXXXXXXX"; /* 728x90, creado 14/04/08 */ google_ad_slot = "XXXXXXXXXXXX"; google_ad_width = 728; google_ad_height = 90; google_page_url = "http://myurl.com/fullpath"; </script> <script type="text/javascript"  src="//pagead2.googlesyndication.com/pagead/show_ads.js"> </script>
You need to update code for all ad units that are showing problems. I know this might be a bit too much to grasp, especially for beginners. But you can contact us and ask questions anytime using the comment section below. All the best with your errors :)
